Very nearly off on our summer holidays to the Edinburgh Fringe but before I go, I want to tell you about a book I've written!
It's called Stealing Deep Purple and it's all about the frankly bonkers tale of the time when Rod Evans, the little known original singer of Deep Purple, got a group of mates together in the Summer of 1980 and just pretended to be Deep Purple.
Rod was rather sneakily sacked from Deep Purple in 1969 before the band became the massive rock giants that they are today. He drifted a bit and then found himself hooking up with a couple of geezers who had a bit of previous. Geoff Emery and Tony Flynn were both in a fake version of Steppenwolf (seriously, they were all at it in the late 1970s)
In this book, I've researched over 200 newspaper and magazine articles plus a stack load of books and filmed interviews. I've got new first hand accounts from people who were actually there. My favourite quote is this one from one of the support acts;
"They all had something down their spandex pants. We couldn't tell if it was a vegetable or plastic..... Every time I watch that scene from Spinal Tap, I think of Deep Purple in 1980." - Llory McDonald, Support Act.
Do you like Deep Purple? Do you know someone who likes Deep Purple? Or maybe you just like complex court battles involving crowd riots, pissed pretend rock stars and an excess of dry ice? Then BUY THIS BOOK!
See you soon, Love Steve
PS I've started a sequel book about a fake Fleetwood Mac
